The City of Gardena Department of Recreation and Human Services offers sports programming throughout the year. For youth we offer sports such as Flag Football, Baseball, Softball, Basketball and Soccer. Free Football, Soccer, Basketball and Softball Clinics are offered for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 years to provide instruction in sports fundamentals and teach good sportsmanship in a structured environment.

Volunteer Coaches are always welcome.

Baseball and Softball Registration – April 29th – June 7th for girls and boys ages 5 to 13 yrs.

Skills Clinic for ages 6-12 years:

Session I:
May 1st – May 31st – for girls and boys ages 5 to 13 years:

Session II:
May 4th, 6th, 11th, 13th and 20th – 6:00pm – 7:30pm at Freeman Park, 2100 West 154th Place

We also offer a wide range of contract classes such as gymnastics, Tai Chi, tennis, golf, Tap and Ballet, Japanese watercolor, line dancing and more. Please contact the Recreation Division office at (310) 217-9537.

Developmentally Disabled sports programs are also offered at various times of the year and include Basketball, Bocce ball and swimming. For information on these and other programs, please call (310) 217-9537.

Adult sports programs provide league play in such sports as basketball, softball and volleyball. An exercise and lap-walking program for seniors is held daily in the Rush Gymnasium. Classes are given in tennis, martial arts, aerobics and dance.

Monthly golf tournaments are conducted by the Gardena Royal & Ancient Golf Association. Also, the City has conducted an annual Palm Springs Golf Tournament each June for over 40 years. Juniors Golf Class
Boys & Girls ages 8-17 are invited. Classes are held at Chester Washington Golf Course, 1930 W. 120th Street from 4-5 p.m. on Thursdays. *Nominal fee will apply. Call (310) 217-9537 for more information.

Adult Basketball
Women’s and Men’s basketball leagues are available at the Rush Memorial Gymnasium and Rowley Park Gymnasium. Team entry fees does not include referee fees.

Adult Softball Men’s, Women’s and Co-Rec Softball Leagues
Available at various Gardena parks. Leagues are played on different nights, depending on the level of the league. Consult the Recreation Division for schedules. Registration fees does not include Umpire. Fees are additional.
