Maintenance
Public Works Department is in charge of the maintenance of the public right of way that includes the street or alley in front of any property within the City of Gardena, the sewer main line in the street, the traffic signal, the striping, and the storm drain system. Off Site Improvements
Any work or activity within the public right of way is considered an off-site improvement. That is, if anyone is digging, constructing, or doing any work on Public Street, sidewalk, curb or gutter or any underground work within the public right of way such as sewer, curb drains, etc.; these are considered off-site improvements. Any off-site improvement or any activity within the public right of way requires an encroachment permit from the Public Works Department. Encroachment permit fees are also required and vary depending on the type of work being done.
