Elected in March 2013 to the office of Gardena Councilmember, Terrrence “Terry” Terauchi returns to the City Council bench. He previously served as a Councilmember from 1999 to 2001 and then as Gardena’s Mayor from 2001 to March 2005. He recently served as Mayor Pro Tem for a year, until April 2016.

Councilman Terauchi represents the City Council and citizens of Gardena as a delegate to the League of California Cities, the Inglewood Fire Training Facility Authority Commission, and will also work closely with the Independent Cities Association, and South Bay Cities Council of Governments as the City’s alternate to those important organizations.

Terauchi was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was raised in a military family. He obtained his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and has been on staff with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office since 1986. He has tried over 170 jury trials and, in 1994, his colleagues in the District Attorney’s Office honored him as Prosecutor of the Month.

During the more than 28 years he has resided in Gardena, Terauchi has been actively involved in the life of our community. He is past President of the Gardena Japanese American Citizens League, served on the Board of Directors of the Gardena-Carson Family YMCA, was an Executive Board member of Gardena Memorial Hospital, a member of the Board of the South Bay Honda Golf Classic, is a current member and past President of the Gardena Evening Optimist Club, a member of the Gardena Valley Chamber of Commerce, a member of Gardena Elks Lodge 1919, on the Board of the Japanese Cultural Institute for several years, and is a past member of the City’s Planning and Environmental Quality Commission.
