Tasha Cerda was appointed to the City Council on September, 22, 2009, was then elected to continue as a member of the Council in March 2011, and was re-elected in March 2013 to serve for four years until March 2017. She recently completed service as Mayor Pro Tem, for one year which ended March 2015.

Prior to her Council service she served the City as City Clerk, from March to September, in 2009.

She is a well-known figure in the Gardena community because of her leadership and active roles in a variety of civic and community organizations.

Because she was brought up with strong family values and encouraged to help those in need, these are integral parts of what Ms. Cerda represents. Believing in community volunteerism enabled her to become well known for her “hands on” leadership know-how beginning with her neighborhood involvement when she joined a local Homeowners Association of which she later became President and served in that position for many years.

Her many Council responsibilities include representing the City on the Gardena Finance Committee, the Southern California Association of Governments, and serving as alternate City delegate to the Los Angeles County City Selection Committee, and to the League of California Cities.

Throughout her years of community advocacy, including being no stranger to controversy, Cerda has worked on numerous projects and committees. She is known to tackle difficult and often challenging issues such as taking a firm stand against irresponsible developers or marching with labor unions.

Growing up in the City of Gardena has allowed Councilwoman Cerda to see the City during its best and worst times. Her passion and love for the City has motivated her to offer fresh new ideas to fight crime and to proceed with the City’s economic renewal by attracting more businesses to the entire populous and make Gardena a Destination City.

Through Cerda’s careful analysis of the issues at hand and leadership based on integrity, Gardena will experience the positive change that it much deserves and needs – She is truly ‘The People’s Advocate’!
